Vocabr #247 for October 05, 2026: word 1 of 5, Indoctrinate, with four definitions to choose from

Vocabr is a short daily vocabulary quiz. Each numbered puzzle gives you five words, one at a time, with four possible definitions, and you pick the right one. A new puzzle arrives every day at midnight.

About Vocabr

Vocabr, from Chugger Games, is a vocabulary test in a minute or two. Each day's puzzle is numbered and dated and holds five words. For each one you see the word and four definitions, and you choose the one that matches. On 5 October 2026 the first word was indoctrinate, with definitions about teaching someone to accept beliefs uncritically, things that last a short time, an alarm signal and inspiring fear.

The wrong options are real definitions of other words, so you need to know the word rather than spot an odd one out. Dots at the top of the card show your progress through the five. The game describes its aim as expanding your vocabulary one word at a time.

It is free in the browser with a dark mode, and a new puzzle arrives every day at midnight. It suits word lovers, students preparing for exams and anyone who wants a quick daily test of their English.

Tips

  • Break a word into its parts: prefixes and roots often give the meaning away.
  • Read all four options before choosing; the wrong ones are real definitions too.
  • Think of the word in a sentence you have heard to test each definition.
  • Look up the words you missed afterwards to remember them.
