A Definitions daily puzzle: three rows of shuffled words such as CHEWY, SUGAR, SUFFERING and HUMOUR in green, yellow and grey, with 20 swaps remaining

Definitions is a free daily word puzzle from PZL games. Three dictionary definitions are shuffled together across three rows, and you swap pairs of words to rebuild each one. Colours show which words are already right, which belong in that definition but elsewhere, and which belong in another one.

About Definitions (PZL games)

Definitions is one of the daily games on PZL games, the puzzle site from Perfect Level Games Ltd, and the sister of its Headlines, which does the same with three of the day's news headlines.

Each row is one definition with a fixed number of slots, but the words have been shuffled across all three. Tap one word and then another to swap them. After every swap the colours update: green means the right word in the right slot, and it locks; yellow means the word belongs to this definition but in another slot; grey means it belongs to a different definition. The puzzle can be solved in ten swaps and you have twenty.

Part of the fun is guessing what is being defined: a line about something chewy made from sugar and butter, or a willingness to suffer for others, comes into focus as the words settle. A first-time tutorial shows the rules with three short examples.

It suits players who like Waffle's swap-and-colour logic but would rather work with whole words and meanings.

How to play Definitions (PZL games)

  1. Open Definitions on PZL games and skip or play the tutorial.
  2. Read the three rows: each is one dictionary definition with its words mixed up across all three.
  3. Tap one word and then another to swap them.
  4. Use the colours: green is right and locked, yellow is the right definition but the wrong slot, grey is the wrong definition.
  5. Rebuild all three definitions within 20 swaps and share your result.

Tips

  • Move grey words first: each one has to leave its row anyway.
  • Small words such as A, OF and OR fit almost anywhere, so place the long ones first.
  • Work out what each definition describes; the meaning tells you the order.
