Spellotic Daily is a free browser spelling test. Each day it reads out five words, shows their definitions, and gives you three goes to type each spelling correctly, with Wordle-style colours after a wrong go.

About Spellotic Daily

Spellotic Daily turns the classroom spelling test into a short daily game. Every day the site loads a fixed set of five words, each with a recorded pronunciation and a short definition, and every player gets the same five. The daily version started at the end of August 2026 and numbers each puzzle by date.

A round is simple: press play to hear the word, read the definition that stays on screen, type your spelling and press Enter. If you get it wrong, the letters are coloured: green for the right letter in the right spot, yellow for a right letter in the wrong spot, grey for a letter that is not in the word. You get three goes per word.

Scoring rewards getting it early. Each word is worth 6 points and each wrong go costs 1. You can also replay the audio once per word, either before your first go or after seeing the clues, so deciding when to use that replay is part of the game. The words get harder through the set.

Settings let you switch between American and British spelling and voice, turn on a hard mode that hides the letter clues after a wrong go, and keep the correct spelling on screen after your last try. There is no account and no advertising. It suits confident spellers, word lovers, and students practising for a spelling bee.

How to play Spellotic Daily

  1. Press play to hear the first word and read its definition.
  2. Type your spelling and press Enter.
  3. If it is wrong, read the coloured letters and try again (three goes per word).
  4. Use your one replay of the audio when you need it.
  5. Finish all five words and share your score grid.

Tips

  • Read the definition carefully: it often settles which of two sound-alike words is meant.
  • Save the audio replay until after your first wrong go, when the clues tell you which part to listen for.
  • Pick British or American spelling in settings before you start, since answers follow that choice.
