TUSMO is a free French word game in the style of the TV show Motus. Each day there is one word to find in six tries, with the first letter given, and a series of four longer words; around them are an archive, endless play and live duels against other players.

About TUSMO

TUSMO describes itself as the French way of doing a daily word game. Like the French television game Motus, it shows you the first letter of the hidden word on the board, and every guess you make has to start with that letter. You get six tries, and after each one every letter is coloured to show whether and where it belongs in the word.

The word of the day is the same for all players, and a countdown tells you when the next one arrives. Keeping a run of days going builds a streak. The daily series adds four more words of the day, from six to nine letters long, for players who want something longer. Missed days can be replayed from the archive, and endless and training modes let you keep going after the daily word is done.

Where TUSMO differs from most daily word games is how much it does with other people. You can race someone on the same word in a ranked duel, where the first to solve it starts a two-minute clock for the other, join rooms with friends, and enter daily and weekly tournaments. It is free and needs no sign-up; a membership bought with a donation unlocks extras such as larger rooms.

How to play TUSMO

  1. Open TUSMO and start the word of the day.
  2. Look at the first letter already shown on the board; every guess must begin with it.
  3. Type a French word of the right length and submit it.
  4. Read the colours on each letter to see which ones are in the word and which are in the right place.
  5. Use them to narrow down the word and find it within six tries.
  6. Share your result, then try the daily series or the archive while you wait for the next word.

Tips

  • Use the given first letter to think of word families before typing; it cuts the field a lot.
  • Spend early guesses on common French letters such as E, A, S, R and T.
  • The daily series runs from six to nine letters, so plan guesses that test several vowels at once.
  • The archive lets you rebuild your feel for the word list on days you have time.
