Tickwork (Dayzle)
Rate itPush brass gears so every arrow points up, while each push turns the gears it meshes with the other way.
Every day: One clockwork board a day, the same for every player: a set of brass gears with arrows, and a par for the fewest pushes. Monday is a chain of 5 gears and each day adds more, up to 11 on Sunday, with locked gears and loops from Wednesday and heavy gears from Friday. New puzzle: Midnight, local time.

Tickwork is a daily gear puzzle on Dayzle. Pushing a gear turns it a quarter turn clockwise and turns every gear touching it a quarter turn the other way; you need all the arrows pointing up in as few pushes as par.
About Tickwork (Dayzle)
Tickwork is one of the eighteen daily games on Dayzle, a site of original puzzles from TLL Studios in Valencia. Each day brings one board of gears on a dark brass plate, the same for everyone, released at local midnight.
Every gear carries an arrow. Tap a gear and it clicks a quarter turn clockwise, while each gear whose teeth touch it turns a quarter turn anticlockwise. Gears with a gap between them do not affect each other, and size makes no difference. A small mark above each gear lights gold when its arrow points straight up, and the puzzle ends when all of them do.
The week gets harder. Monday is a short chain of five gears; each day adds more, up to eleven on Sunday. From Wednesday gears can form a loop, so one push turns two neighbours at once, and grey steel gears with a padlock cannot be pushed at all, only turned by their neighbours. From Friday copper heavy gears turn half a turn when pushed.
A counter shows your pushes against par. Matching par gives three stars, one or two over gives two, more gives one. Undo and Start over are free, since only the pushes in your final solution count, and a timer breaks ties. Past editions stay open to play for practice but never count toward your streak.
The shared result shows your stars, pushes and one gear emoji per gear, never your solution.
How to play Tickwork (Dayzle)
- Open Tickwork on Dayzle; today's board loads with its par above it.
- Tap a gear to push it a quarter turn clockwise; every gear it meshes with turns a quarter turn the other way.
- Touch and hold a gear, or point at it with the mouse, to light up its neighbours without pushing it.
- Keep going until every arrow points up and its gold mark lights; use Undo or Start over freely.
- Match par for three stars, then share your result.

Tips
- Order does not matter: only how many times you push each gear counts, from 0 to 3, since four pushes make a full turn.
- Start with a gear at the end of a chain: it has one neighbour, so its arrow depends on just two counts.
- A locked gear is never pushed, so plan its neighbours around turning it straight.
- A heavy gear moves two steps per push, so its neighbours decide whether it ends up pointing up.
Questions
When does a new Tickwork puzzle come out?
At midnight in your own time zone. Everyone plays the same board that day.
Do Undo and restarts count against me?
No. Only the pushes in your final solution are counted against par.
Why is Sunday harder than Monday?
The board grows through the week, from a chain of 5 gears on Monday to 11 on Sunday, with locked gears, loops and heavy gears added from midweek.
Is Tickwork free?
Yes. It plays in the browser with no account, and past editions are free to play for practice.
