The Wiki Game Daily sets one Wikipedia race a day: a start page and a target page, the same for everyone. You can only click the links inside each article, and your score depends on how many steps you take and how fast you are.

About The Wiki Game Daily

The Wiki Game Daily turns the old WikiRace into a once-a-day challenge. Each day the site picks two Wikipedia articles, such as Wavelength and Tibet, and you have to get from the first to the second by clicking links inside the articles, with no search box and no using the back button to cheat.

The site sits alongside The Wiki Game at thewikigame.com, which offers unlimited races and other modes; the daily site keeps it to one shared race so friends can compare routes. It is free, needs no sign-up, and runs in any browser.

A day's race starts on the first article. You scan it for blue links that move you closer to the target, often heading for a broad hub such as a country, a field of science or a historical period, then narrowing down. When you land on the target page the game shows your step count and time, which you can share. A countdown shows when the next race arrives, and you can look at yesterday's fastest route.

What makes it different from trivia quizzes is that you never have to know an answer: you need to know how topics connect. Missed days can be played from the archive. It suits curious readers, students and anyone who has ever lost an afternoon following links on Wikipedia.

Tips

  • Head for a broad hub article early, such as a country or a scientific field, since those link to thousands of pages.
  • Think about what kind of thing the target is (a person, a place, a concept) and steer toward that area first.
  • Avoid niche pages until you are close, as they often have few useful links out.
