Sworn on Mind Loft for October 3, 2026: the case of a barrel of herring stolen from a fish market, with five witnesses' statements, exactly 2 of 5 lying, an Accuse button beside each and a Hint: verif

Sworn is a free daily liars puzzle from Mind Loft, in the knights and knaves tradition. Five villagers each give one sworn statement about a theft. An exact number of them are lying, and one is the thief. You test each theory against the lie count until only one story holds.

About Sworn (Mind Loft)

Sworn is a logic puzzle on Mind Loft, a free site of daily browser games, styled as a village inquest. Something has been stolen and five locals are put under oath. Each gives a single statement. The game tells you exactly how many of them are lying, liars' statements are always false, and one of the five is the thief.

The way through is case work. Suppose a suspect is the thief, then go through each statement and see whether it would be true or false; if the number of lies does not match, the theory collapses. The true story is the only one that holds together. Every case is generated with a constraint solver and checked to have exactly one consistent answer that can be reached by deduction rather than guesswork.

On the day we looked, a barrel of pickled herring had vanished from the Pilgrim Wharf fish market, and exactly 2 of the 5 witnesses were lying. Testimony stays sealed until you start. You can mark witnesses as lying, use a hint that verifies one witness, and press Accuse beside the suspect you think did it; the header counts wrong accusations, which affect your place on the daily leaderboard.

A new inquest is sworn at midnight US Eastern Time, with six suspects at the Sunday Grand Inquest. Mind Loft pairs it with Alibi (a whodunit on logic grids) and Jesters (a placement puzzle).

How to play Sworn (Mind Loft)

  1. Open mindloftdaily.com/sworn and press Start the inquest to unseal the testimony.
  2. Read each of the five sworn statements and note how many of them are lies.
  3. Assume one suspect is the thief and check which statements would then be true or false.
  4. Throw out every theory where the number of lies does not match.
  5. Name the thief once only one story holds together; wrong calls are counted.

Tips

  • Statements that contradict each other cannot both be true, which often fixes one liar straight away.
  • A speaker who accuses themselves or clears everyone is a strong place to start.
  • Write down the lie count for each theory rather than holding it in your head.
  • On Sunday there are six suspects, so expect more cases to check.
