Add numbers around a circular board into the centre until it is clear.

Every day: One dated board a day, the same for every player, played in three modes: Easy clears it freely, Medium makes every third move go into the centre, and Hard sets target numbers to hit. New puzzle: Once a day; the site does not state the time.

Sumabl Medium board for the day: three rings of teal segments holding numbers such as 5, 8, 9, 1, 4 and 6 around a centre showing 0, with the move and reset counters

Sumabl is the daily number puzzle on Puzzabl. A round board of rings and segments holds numbers; you drag one onto a neighbour to add them, moving only around or inward, until everything has been summed into the centre in as few moves as you can. Easy, Medium and Hard each put their own rule on the same daily board.

About Sumabl

Sumabl is the first of the original daily games on Puzzabl, an independent puzzle site and app made by Richard Griffiths, beside the word puzzle Spellabl and the colour puzzle Colorabl. All three share a round board: a circle split into rings and segments around a centre.

In Sumabl every segment holds a number. You drag a segment one space at a time, around its ring or inward toward the centre, never outward, and its number is added to the one it lands on. A number can only move onto an equal or lower number, and blank segments are walls that cannot move or be moved onto. A small number boxed in by larger ones is locked until you raise it, and if no move is left before the board is clear, the game is over and you reset.

The same daily board is played three ways. Easy just asks you to clear it, the centre counting up from 0. Medium adds a rhythm: every three moves, one must go into the centre, shown by a countdown at the top left. Hard turns the centre into a target number to hit exactly; hit it and the next target appears, and an overshoot cannot be undone. A counter tracks moves and resets, and a free account adds stats, streaks and leaderboards, including private ones for friends.

It suits players who like a short arithmetic puzzle with planning in it, and the three modes let you stop at a quick Easy or work up to Hard.

How to play Sumabl

  1. Open Sumabl and choose Easy, Medium or Hard for today's board.
  2. Drag a segment one space around its ring or inward onto a neighbour; its number is added to that segment.
  3. Move only onto an equal or lower number, and route around blank segments.
  4. Keep summing until every number is in the centre, in as few moves as you can.
  5. In Medium, move into the centre every three moves; in Hard, hit each target number in the centre exactly.

Tips

  • Scan the whole board before your first move: find the blanks and the small numbers first.
  • Free small numbers early, before their neighbours grow too large for them to move onto.
  • Work from the outside in, where segments have the most moves.
  • In Hard, work out which segments add up to the target before you touch anything.

Questions

Is Sumabl free?

Yes, on the web and in the Puzzabl apps. A free account adds stats, streaks and leaderboards.

What changes between Easy, Medium and Hard?

The board is the same. Medium makes every third move go into the centre, and Hard replaces the running total with target numbers to hit exactly.

What if I get stuck?

If no valid move is left and the board is not clear, the game ends; tap Reset to start the board again.
