Slide Words: a 10x10 board of letter tiles with found words in green, a Puzzle Solved dialog reporting 591 moves, and the target list including TIRED and WINTER with direction arrows

Slide Words turns the word search into a sliding-tile puzzle. All the letters you need are on a 10x10 board with one empty square; slide tiles through the gap until the five target words read in the directions they belong. The Daily Challenge gives everyone the same board, ranked by moves.

About Slide Words

Slide Words, by Wayne Martin, takes the word search apart and asks you to put it back together. Every letter you need is already on a ten by ten grid, sitting in the wrong place, and there is exactly one empty square to move tiles through, like the old fifteen puzzle.

Each puzzle names five words and the direction each must read, across, downward or along a diagonal. Landing one word is satisfying; landing all five without dragging the others out of place is the real puzzle. Nothing is timed and nothing is lost, so you can take as long as a board deserves.

The Daily Challenge gives every player the same board on the same day, and your move count goes onto a Steam leaderboard beside everyone else who played it. Away from the daily, randomly built puzzles never run out. It plays with mouse, keyboard or gamepad on Windows.

It suits word-search fans who want a puzzle that needs planning as well as spotting.

How to play Slide Words

  1. Launch Slide Words on Steam and open the Daily Challenge.
  2. Read the five target words and the direction each must read.
  3. Slide letter tiles into the one empty square to move them around the board.
  4. Line up all five words in their directions.
  5. Finish in as few moves as you can for the leaderboard.

Tips

  • Place one word in a corner first, then work around it so later moves do not disturb it.
  • Diagonal words are the hardest to keep intact; leave them for last.
