Silver Screen Grid
Fill a two by three grid with films that fit both the row and the column.
Every day: One new 2 by 3 grid of film categories a day, the same for every player: directors, actors, genres, decades and runtimes crossed so each square needs a film that fits both. New puzzle: Midnight (the site does not name the time zone).

Silver Screen Grid is a free daily movie trivia grid. Each of its six squares sits where a row category meets a column category, such as a director and a decade, and you fill it with a film that matches both. You start with five stars and lose one for each wrong guess.
About Silver Screen Grid
Silver Screen Grid takes the format of the sports grids, where every square is the meeting point of two categories, and applies it to cinema. The grid is smaller than most, two rows by three columns, so a day's puzzle is six films long.
The categories mix people and facts about the film: directed by a named director, starring a named actor, a genre such as fantasy or drama, a release decade, or a runtime over two and a half hours. A film for the square where Christopher Nolan meets the 1990s has to be a Nolan film released in that decade, and the trick is finding one that fits the narrower of the two.
There is no fixed number of guesses. You start each grid with five stars and every wrong film costs one; the grid ends when the stars run out, and a perfect score means six right films without a miss. Results can be shared, and the site keeps a streak.
A new grid goes up every day at midnight, and tabs at the top of the page open an archive of past grids. The game is free, needs no account and can be installed on a phone as a web app.
How to play Silver Screen Grid
- Open the day's grid on silverscreengrid.com.
- Pick a square and read its row category and its column category.
- Search for a film that fits both and confirm it.
- A wrong film costs one of your five stars; keep going until all six squares are filled or the stars run out.
- Share your star rating and come back the next day for a new grid.
Tips
- Start with the square whose categories are narrowest, such as a director in a decade, before the broad genre squares.
- Runtime categories favour epics and long dramas; think of three hour films first.
- Use the archive to practise on past grids without touching your streak.
