Secret Sound (BrainSnack)
Rate itListen to the day's mystery sound and work out what is making it.
Every day: One mystery sound clip a day to identify, with unlimited replays, up to three hints and a score that starts at 8. New puzzle: Once a day.

Secret Sound plays one short mystery clip a day and asks what is making that sound. You can replay it as often as you like, reveal up to three hints and type your guess, which must be at least two words. Your score starts at 8 and falls as you lean on help.
About Secret Sound (BrainSnack)
Secret Sound is one of the small daily puzzles on BrainSnack, beside games like Math Sprint and Faceit. Its question is simple: what's making that sound?
You press the play button to hear the day's clip, and replays are unlimited. Under the player a row of dashes shows the length of the answer, which is a short phrase rather than a single word: the game only accepts guesses of at least two words. If you cannot place the sound, you can reveal hints one at a time, up to three, or give up and see the answer.
The score shown at the top starts at 8 out of 8 and goes down as you use hints and guesses, so the best result comes from naming the sound on the first listen. A new clip arrives each day.
It suits players who like a listening puzzle that is not about music, and anyone who has wondered what a common household or outdoor noise really sounds like out of context.
How to play Secret Sound (BrainSnack)
- Open Secret Sound and press play to hear the day's clip.
- Replay it as often as you like and note the length of the answer.
- Type a guess of at least two words and press Guess.
- Reveal a hint if you are stuck, up to three in all.
- Name the sound with as few hints and guesses as you can to keep your score high.
Tips
- Listen for the setting first: indoor, outdoor, machine or animal.
- Count the dashes to judge how long the answer is.
- Take a hint only after a couple of careful listens, since each one lowers your score.
