Faceit board: a five by eight grid of covered tiles with one tile uncovered showing part of a face, and a Who is it guess box

Faceit covers a celebrity's photo with a grid of 40 tiles. You choose up to five tiles to uncover and have three guesses to name the person, and the fewer tiles you use the higher your score. It is one of BrainSnack's two-minute daily puzzles.

About Faceit (BrainSnack)

Faceit is a daily face puzzle from BrainSnack, a small site of free browser games built to take about two minutes a day. The day's photo of a famous person is hidden under a five by eight grid of tiles, and you decide which parts to uncover.

You have five reveals and three guesses. The score starts at 8 out of 8 and drops with each tile you turn, so the challenge is picking the tiles that give away the most: the eyes, a hairline, a distinctive smile. Type a name to guess, or give up to see the answer.

Everyone gets the same face that day, so scores can be shared and compared. The photo credits for each day are listed on the site.

BrainSnack's other dailies sit beside it: Secret Sound (name a sound clip), Math Sprint, Quizzical and MindMatch. There is no account and no download.

How to play Faceit (BrainSnack)

  1. Tap a tile on the covered photo to reveal that part of it.
  2. Decide whether you recognise the face or need another tile (up to five).
  3. Type the person's name and press Guess.
  4. You have three guesses; fewer reveals keep a higher score.

Tips

  • Start near the middle of the grid, where eyes and nose usually sit.
  • A reveal of the hairline or an ear can rule out more people than a patch of cheek.
  • Guess before using all five reveals if you are fairly sure: each tile costs a point.
