Facedle board: a photo mostly hidden under grey tiles, with the How to play panel

Facedle is a daily guessing game about famous faces. The picture of a well-known person is covered by a grid of tiles; each wrong or skipped guess uncovers more of it, and the aim is to name the person in as few attempts as possible.

About Facedle

Facedle shows a photo of a famous person hidden under a ten by ten grid of tiles, with only a few uncovered at the start. You type a name and choose it from a list of thousands of people, from actors and musicians to politicians and athletes. Each incorrect or skipped attempt reveals more tiles, in a set order for that day's picture, so the face gradually appears.

The day's person is picked from a fixed list by counting days since 10 May 2022, which means everyone sees the same face on the same day. Early entries include Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt and Barack Obama. When you finish, you can share your result without giving the answer away. There is also a dark mode.

It suits pop culture and news fans who like a quick visual puzzle; it rewards recognising features such as eyes, hair or a familiar smile from small patches.

How to play Facedle

  1. Look at the uncovered tiles of today's picture.
  2. Type a name and pick the person from the suggestions, or skip.
  3. Each wrong or skipped guess reveals more of the picture.
  4. Name the person in as few attempts as possible and share your score.

Tips

  • Hair, glasses and skin tone are often visible early and narrow the field.
  • Skipping costs an attempt but reveals tiles; guess only when you have a real candidate.
  • Think broadly: the list covers politics, sport, music and film.
  • Background details such as a stage or a flag can be clues too.
