Framed is a daily movie quiz played in the browser. You start with a single still from a film and type your guess; every wrong answer or skip shows another frame, up to six in all. Come back the next day for a new film, or play the ones you missed in the archive.

About Framed

Framed appeared in March 2022, in the wave of daily games that followed Wordle and the music quiz Heardle. Its maker has stayed mostly out of view and runs the game through the @framedwtf social accounts. The site says each day's film comes from a list the creator puts together by hand.

A round is short. The first frame is usually a hard one: a landscape, a hallway, a hand on a door. If you guess wrong or pass, the next frame appears, and the stills tend to get more telling as you go, until a famous face or set piece gives the film away. You have six frames to land on the right title, and your result is saved to a stats page with your streak and win rate.

The classic six-frame game is the main draw, but the site has grown other modes: One Frame, where you get a single still and no more, Titleshot, where you name the film from its title card, and Poster, where you work from the poster. An archive lets you play earlier days.

Framed suits anyone who watches a lot of films and likes recognising them from details: lighting, colour, costume, a corner of a set. It is quick enough to fit next to Wordle in a morning routine, and the share grid makes it easy to compare with friends.

How to play Framed

  1. Open framed.wtf to see the first frame from today's film.
  2. Type a film title into the box and pick it from the suggestions, or skip.
  3. If the guess is wrong or you skip, the next frame is shown.
  4. Keep guessing until you name the film or run out of frames.
  5. Share your result grid or try the One Frame, Titleshot and Poster modes.

Tips

  • Look at the picture quality, colour grading and aspect ratio first; they often tell you roughly when the film was made.
  • Skipping costs the same as a wrong guess, so make a guess whenever you have a real hunch.
  • Pay attention to costumes, cars and phones in the background to narrow the decade.
  • Choose titles from the drop-down list so spelling does not trip you up.
  • If you miss a day, play it later from the archive to keep practising.
