Name the thing in a pixelated photo from its category, in six guesses as the picture sharpens.

Every day: One pixelated photo a day with its category shown (Animal on 2026-10-07, Food the day before), the same for every player on that date. You get six guesses, and each miss shows a sharper version of the picture. New puzzle: Midnight, local time.

Pixle's puzzle for 2026-10-07: a photo reduced to an 8x8 grid of green, brown and grey blocks, Category: Animal, a guess box and 6 guesses remaining

Pixle is a daily picture-guessing game. Each day one photo is shown as a coarse grid of coloured blocks with a category such as Animal or Food, and you have six guesses to name it, each wrong answer revealing a sharper image.

About Pixle

Pixle shows one photo a day, the same for everyone on that date, and the page title carries the date of the puzzle. The day turns over at midnight in your own time zone.

The picture starts as an eight by eight grid of coloured blocks, with only a category under it to go on, such as Animal or Food. You type what you think it is and press Guess. A wrong answer goes into your list and the image comes back at a finer level, and some levels add a written hint. If you have not got it after six guesses, the game shows the full-resolution photo and the answer.

If your typing is close to a known answer but not exact, Pixle suggests the name it thinks you meant and fills it in without using up a guess. When the round ends you see your games played, wins, current and best streak and a guess distribution, and you can copy a short line of squares to share.

Past days stay playable from links to the previous puzzle under the picture and in the end-of-game panel, so you can work back through earlier dates. Archive games do not change your streak.

How to play Pixle

  1. Open pixle.site and look at the day's pixelated picture and its category.
  2. Type what you think the picture shows and press Guess.
  3. After a wrong guess, study the sharper picture that loads, and read any hint that appears.
  4. Name it within six guesses, then share your result or try the previous day's puzzle.

Tips

  • Use the category first: think of things in it whose usual colours match the big blocks, such as green background for a garden animal.
  • Squint or lean back from the screen; a pixelated image is often easier to read from a distance.
  • Do not worry about exact spelling: a close guess brings up a did-you-mean suggestion that does not cost a try.
