PopIdle
Name the album from its pixelated cover art.
Every day: One album a day, the same for everyone, shown as heavily pixelated cover art that gets clearer with each wrong guess until you name the album in six attempts. Every past puzzle can be played from a history page, and sister sites run a daily album from the 80s, 90s and 2000s. New puzzle: Midnight UTC.

PopIdle shows a blocky, pixelated version of an album cover and asks which album it is. Each wrong guess sharpens the picture, you have six attempts, and you share your result when you finish. A new album comes each day, and earlier puzzles stay open on the previous puzzles page.
About PopIdle
PopIdle is a daily browser game about album artwork. Its puzzles are numbered from May 2022, one per day, and every player gets the same album. There is nothing to listen to: the only clue is the cover itself, reduced at first to a handful of large coloured squares.
You start typing an album title and pick it from the search list. If it is wrong, the cover comes back a little less pixelated, so shapes, faces and lettering begin to show. You have six attempts in all. When you solve it, or run out, you see the full cover and get a result to share. The game keeps your history and statistics in the browser, and the previous puzzles page lets you play any day you missed.
Under Even more PopIdle, the site links three decade versions, PopIdle80s, PopIdle90s and PopIdle00s, each with a daily album from that decade, and ScreenIdle, which does the same thing with film posters. It also points players to Bandle.
Most daily music games test your ears. PopIdle tests whether you remember what records look like, so it suits people who grew up browsing record shops or scrolling album art, and it takes a minute or two.
How to play PopIdle
- Look at the pixelated album cover.
- Start typing the album title and pick it from the search list.
- Submit your guess; if it is wrong, the cover becomes less pixelated.
- Keep guessing until you name the album or use all six attempts.
- Share your result, or open the previous puzzles page to play a missed day.
Tips
- Read the colours first: many famous covers are known by one strong colour or a plain background.
- Look for where a face or a block of text sits; layout survives pixelation better than detail.
- Guess early even if unsure, since only a guess sharpens the picture.
- If you like a particular decade, play the 80s, 90s or 00s sister sites as well.
Questions
When does PopIdle get a new album?
Each day at midnight UTC; the puzzle number counts days in UTC.
How many guesses do I get?
Six. Each wrong guess shows a less pixelated version of the cover.
Can I play earlier puzzles?
Yes, from the previous puzzles page.
Are there other versions?
Yes: PopIdle80s, PopIdle90s and PopIdle00s each have a daily album from their decade, and ScreenIdle does the same with movie posters.
