Chimera

Name the three real animals stitched into the day's pixelated creature: one head, one body, one set of legs, tail or wings.

Every day: One numbered creature a day, the same for everyone (#1 was Monday 28 September 2026), made from three real animals; name the head, the body and the legs, tail or wings in as few guesses as you can. New puzzle: Midnight, your local time.

Chimera is a daily animal guessing game: each day's picture is a made-up creature built from three real animals, and it starts out pixelated. You type animal names, each wrong guess tells you how close it is and to which part, and every animal you find turns its part of the picture sharp.

About Chimera

Chimera is a free browser game by Michal Turjeman (Mich1604 on itch.io), launched on Monday 28 September 2026 at chimeradaily.com. Every day there is one numbered creature made from three animals: one gives the head, one the body and one the legs, tail or wings. Past examples include a koala head on a clownfish body with dragonfly wings.

The picture begins pixelated. You can guess any of 256 animals, from pets and wild animals to birds, sea life and bugs. A wrong guess gets a number showing how close it is and which part it is nearest to; the lower the number the closer, and #2 is as close as you can get without being right. Each correct animal fills in its label and turns that part of the picture sharp. If you are stuck you can sharpen the whole picture up to twice, but each sharpen counts as a guess. There is no guess limit, and fewer is better.

The difficulty follows the week. Monday and Tuesday use animals everyone knows, the puzzles get harder toward the weekend, and every creature shows its difficulty out of 5 before you start. On Fossil Friday one of the three animals is extinct.

When you finish you see the full picture, the creature's name, one fact about each animal, your streak and a spoiler-free result to share. Every past creature is in the archive and can be played without affecting your streak. There is no account and nothing to download.

How to play Chimera

  1. Open chimeradaily.com to see today's numbered, pixelated creature and its difficulty.
  2. Type the name of an animal you think is in it and submit.
  3. If it is wrong, read its closeness number and which part it is nearest to; lower is closer.
  4. Keep guessing until the head, the body and the legs, tail or wings are all named and the picture is sharp.
  5. Share your guess count, then read the facts about the three animals.

Tips

  • Look at the label on the third box first: it says whether that part is legs, a tail or wings, which narrows the animal a lot.
  • Use the closeness numbers: when a guess scores low for a part, try animals similar to it for that part.
  • Sharpening costs a guess, so save it for when the closeness numbers stop helping.
  • On Fridays, remember one animal is extinct, so try dinosaurs and other fossil animals.

Questions

Is Chimera the same for everyone?

Yes. There is one numbered creature a day and every player gets the same one.

When does a new Chimera creature come out?

At midnight on your own device's clock.

Is there a guess limit?

No. You keep guessing until you find all three animals; the aim is to use as few guesses as possible. Each picture sharpen also counts as a guess.

Can I play creatures I missed?

Yes. Every past creature is in the archive, with the same rules, and playing them does not affect your streak.
