It's a Mystery Picture Game! hides a photo under a grid of tiles. You click tiles to reveal small pieces, get a hint after a few flips, and type a guess when you think you know what it is. The aim is to solve it with as few tiles flipped and as few guesses as possible, with a new picture each day.

About It's a Mystery Picture Game!

It's a Mystery Picture Game! is a small free browser game on itch.io by vaasu, who based it on a game they used to play with students in a comics class as an ice breaker and end-of-day activity.

Each day there is one mystery photo per theme. The animal theme uses animal pictures from NOAA and the Smithsonian's National Zoo, and there is also a Random Objects theme. The picture is chosen from the date, so everyone sees the same one that day.

The photo is covered by a grid of tiles. You click tiles to reveal small sections. After you have flipped a few, a hint appears. When you think you know what the picture shows, you type a guess. The counters for tiles flipped and guesses made are your score, so the fewer the better, and you can reveal the solution if you give up.

It suits classes and families as well as solo players, and the animal theme doubles as a small nature lesson.

How to play It's a Mystery Picture Game!
