CreatureFeature range question: a photo of a green tree frog beside a map of Australia where the player's drawn range covers 76 percent of the frog's real range

CreatureFeature.gg is a daily animal identification game built on real taxonomy. Each day everyone gets the same creature in photos, and you answer one question at a time, from its kingdom, phylum, class, order and genus to its native range drawn on a globe and its name, with bonus points for the scientific name.

About CreatureFeature.gg

CreatureFeature.gg is a free, non-commercial browser game by Mitchell Kucy, launched on 28 September 2026 and still in development. It draws its information from Wikipedia, the IUCN and crowdsourced projects such as GBIF, and each creature comes with a few photos you can flip through and zoom into.

A game is a series of questions about the creature, asked one at a time. You place it in its kingdom, phylum, class, order and genus, with each correct step worth more points than the last. For its range you draw an outline on a globe, and the game shows how much of the real native range you covered and what you missed. Then you name it by its common name, and typing the scientific name earns a bonus. After the answer, field notes give the full classification and a short description of the animal.

The daily creature is numbered and changes at midnight UTC, the same for every player. Some days are easy and some are hard, and scores go on a global leaderboard. Missed days are kept in an archive.

Beyond the main daily there is a daily bird for birders, regional dailies for parts of the world such as Africa and Asia, unlimited and practice play, a survival mode with three lives, head-to-head challenges and leagues. It suits anyone curious about animals, and its classroom tags reflect that it teaches classification as you play.

How to play CreatureFeature.gg

  1. Open creaturefeature.gg and press Play to see today's creature.
  2. Look through its photos, zooming in for detail.
  3. Answer each step in turn: kingdom, phylum, class, order and genus.
  4. Draw its native range on the globe; you score for how much of the real range you cover.
  5. Name the creature, adding its scientific name for bonus points, then read the field notes and check the leaderboard.

Tips

  • Later steps are worth more than earlier ones, so take your time at order and genus.
  • When drawing the range, cover the core of where the animal lives rather than whole continents; the result shows covered and missed areas.
  • Read the field notes after each game; the classifications repeat across creatures and add up quickly.
  • Use practice or unlimited mode to learn the main phyla and classes before your daily attempt.
