Face Guesser

Face Guesser for Friday, October 2, 2026: a pixelated portrait with a name box and Guess button

Face Guesser shows one famous person a day as a heavily pixelated photo. You get five guesses to name them, and after each wrong guess the picture becomes clearer. Below the game, the site reveals the previous days' faces along with the most common guesses players made at each stage.

About Face Guesser

Face Guesser, from Bored Button LLC, is a short daily celebrity quiz. The day's photo starts as a coarse grid of coloured blocks. Type a first and last name and press Guess; if you are wrong, the image gets more detail, and you have five tries in all. Faces come from public photos, credited to their photographers under Creative Commons licences, and range across music, film, sport and politics.

What sets it apart is the look back at earlier days. For each recent face the page shows how many people guessed at each of the five stages and the most frequent answers, so you can see, for instance, that many players first took a pixelated singer for Michelle Obama before the image cleared. Each answer links to the person's Wikipedia page.

The page is dated, so everyone plays the same face that day. It is free with ads and needs no account. It suits pop culture fans who want a one-minute daily guess.

How to play Face Guesser

  1. Look at today's pixelated photo.
  2. Type the person's first and last name and press Guess.
  3. If you are wrong, the picture becomes clearer.
  4. Name them within five guesses.

Tips

  • Use the first blurry image for overall clues: hair shape, skin tone and background colours.
  • Think about who has been in the news lately; faces are often topical.
  • Do not waste early guesses on random names; even a wrong guess should be someone who matches the blocks.
  • Check the past days' statistics to see how others misread similar images.
