The Screenplaydle card from Minigame Mania

Screenplaydle gives you three films a day. For each one, actors are revealed one at a time alongside the genre and release year until you name the film, and then you put the cast in order from most dialogue to least. Each film is worth up to 15 points.

About Screenplaydle

Screenplaydle is a daily film game on Minigame Mania, a small site of daily games that also runs music and word puzzles. Each day it serves three challenges, and every player gets the same three films.

A challenge has two phases. In the first, the film's actors appear one by one, with the genre and release year shown as clues, and you guess the title from a list of films. You can score up to 5 points here, losing one for every actor you needed to see. In the second phase you drag the cast into order from the character with the most dialogue in the screenplay to the one with the least. You get two attempts: correct positions lock after the first, and each one is worth 2 points first time or 1 point if fixed on the second try, for up to 10 points.

The ranking phase is what sets it apart from cast-based film guessers. Knowing who was in a film is one thing; knowing whether the lead or the supporting player actually talks more is another, and it often surprises.

Alongside the daily three there is a random mode, a marathon mode where you build your own session of films, and a stats page. Signing in lets you save progress and track stats, but the daily game can be played without it.

How to play Screenplaydle

  1. Open Screenplaydle and start the first of the day's three films.
  2. Look at the genre, release year and the first actor shown, and guess the film's title.
  3. Reveal more actors if you need them; each one costs a point from the 5 available.
  4. Once the film is named, drag its actors into order from most dialogue to least and submit.
  5. Fix the positions shown in red on your second attempt, then move on to the next film.

Tips

  • Guess early when the genre and year narrow it down; a correct guess with one actor keeps all 5 points.
  • In the ranking phase, the top-billed star is not always the one who speaks most; ensemble films and narrators upset the order.
  • Use your first ranking to lock in the positions you are sure of, then rethink only the red ones.
  • Try the random and marathon modes for practice once the daily three are done.
