Quotesed

Name the day's movie from its quotes.

Every day: One movie a day, the same for every player: guess it from up to six of its quotes, each easier than the last. Two side dailies run beside it: CastMate (name the film from its characters) and Inkling (solve a phrase by picking letters). New puzzle: Midnight; the site does not state the time zone.

Quotesed, the daily movie quote game

Quotesed is a daily movie quote game: each day you try to name one film using up to six lines of its dialogue, starting with the hardest. The site also has CastMate, where you name a film from its character names, and Inkling, a daily phrase puzzle, plus an archive of past days and stats.

About Quotesed

Quotesed gives you one film a day and six chances to name it. Each chance shows a different line of dialogue from that film. The first quotes are picked to be hard, often lines that could come from almost anything, and they get more familiar as you go until the last one is usually a line people know. You type a title, choose it from the search list and submit; a wrong guess or an empty submit moves you on to the next quote.

The day's game is numbered and the same for every player, and a new one goes up at midnight. When you finish, you can share your result with friends without giving away the film. An archive lists every past game by number and date, so you can play days you missed, and a statistics page keeps your record.

Two more dailies sit on the same site. CastMate asks you to name a film from the names of its characters. Inkling is a phrase puzzle in the style of hangman: you read a category and a hint, pick letters, and can afford five wrong picks and three extra hints. Quotesed suits people who remember films by their dialogue rather than by their posters or cast lists, and it is a good companion to the frame and poster games.

How to play Quotesed

  1. Read the first quote from the day's film.
  2. Type a movie title in the search box and pick it from the list, then press Submit.
  3. If you are not sure, leave the box empty and press Submit to skip to the next quote.
  4. Each miss or skip shows a new quote from the same film; you have six in all.
  5. Share your result, then try CastMate and Inkling or play past days from the archive.

Tips

  • Skipping the first quote costs a guess but often saves you from a wild one; the early lines are meant to be vague.
  • Listen for the register of the line: slang, period phrasing or technical talk narrows the decade and genre.
  • Character names or places in a quote are the strongest clues; when one appears, think about where you have heard it before guessing a famous film.
  • Use the archive to practise on old days if you want a feel for how hard the first quotes are.
