Quiple board for the theme Group People by Country of Birth: fifteen boxes with names such as Bach, Monet, Einstein, Lincoln and Kahlo, streak and incorrect tries shown above

Quiple is a daily trivia sorting game. Each day brings one theme and a grid of fifteen names or items, and you pick out the groups of three that belong together before you make four wrong guesses. A streak counts the days you solve it.

About Quiple

Quiple gives you one board a day. A heading at the top names the theme, for example grouping famous people by the country they were born in, and below it sit fifteen boxes in a five by three grid. Hidden among them are five groups of three, and your job is to find each one.

It plays like a trivia version of Connections: the theme tells you what links the groups, so the challenge is less about spotting the connection and more about knowing the facts. On a country of birth day you need to know that Bach, Beethoven and Einstein were all born in Germany while Monet, Debussy and Voltaire were French, and the board is built so that a name you are unsure of can sit in more than one place.

You may make four wrong guesses before the game ends. Solve the board and your streak goes up by one; the streak and the count of wrong tries sit just under the theme. After a game the site suggests a book, album or film related to the day's subject. The same maker also runs Spot The Fake, Art Studies and a memory version of Quiple, linked from the menu.

A round takes a few minutes, and it suits players who like general knowledge quizzes but want something with a little more logic than a list of questions.

How to play Quiple

  1. Read the theme at the top of the day's board.
  2. Click three boxes you think belong in the same group.
  3. Submit the group; a right guess locks those three boxes in, a wrong one uses up one of your four tries.
  4. Keep going until all five groups are found or the tries run out.
  5. Come back the next day for a new theme and to keep your streak.

Tips

  • Start with the group you are most sure of: every right answer leaves fewer boxes to confuse you.
  • Look for names that could fit two groups and leave them until last.
  • Count the boxes left in each possible group before you spend a try on a guess you are unsure of.
