Pronoun Palace is a word-spelling roguelike by Cadence Petersen and Hazel Fackler. You spell words with letter tiles to attack and defend, bend the tiles with spells, and fight through a dystopian bureaucracy to win back your pronouns. Daily runs come with leaderboards.

About Pronoun Palace

Pronoun Palace came out on Steam in June 2026 for Windows, Mac and Linux. Its premise is satirical: in a dystopian future the government has taken your pronouns, and you fight the Party to get them back. The humour is irreverent and the themes are for adults, with references to drugs among other things.

Underneath is a word game. Each battle hands you letter tiles: words spelled with wooden tiles attack and words with plastic tiles defend. More than 75 spells change the tiles, shifting letters along the alphabet, turning them into candy or adding wildcards. Five playable characters each bend the rules, for example punching holes in tiles to submit several words at once, catching letters from passing fish, or juggling ticking bombs.

Over 50 enemy encounters each change how a fight works, with tile effects such as poison, trigrams and capital letters, mystery letters to deduce and rules about which tiles may touch. More than ten difficulty levels stretch the challenge.

Daily runs, complete with leaderboards, give everyone the same run each day. The developers add special touches to them: patch notes describe themed special dailies marked with a star, and a clearance daily on the last day of each month. It suits word game players who also like roguelike deckbuilders, and who enjoy a game with an attitude.

Tips

  • Balance attack and defence each turn rather than always going for the longest word.
  • Read each enemy's rule before spelling: many fights punish certain letters or tiles.
  • Try every character in normal runs first, since each one plays very differently.
