Palavra do Dia is a Portuguese adaptation of Wordle from Portugal. Each day there is one hidden five-letter word, chosen by the date so everyone gets the same one, plus a six-letter version, and you have six tries with green, yellow and grey tiles as clues.

About Palavra do Dia (palavra-do-dia.pt)

Palavra do Dia ('word of the day') follows Josh Wardle's Wordle closely, adapted to Portuguese as written in Portugal. You type five-letter words and press Enter; after each guess a green tile means the letter is in the word and in the right place, yellow means it is in the word but elsewhere, and grey means it is not in the word.

The day's word is picked from the list by counting days since the game started in January 2022, so everyone playing on the same date gets the same word. A newer six-letter version, at palavra-do-dia.pt/6, offers a second, longer word each day. Statistics and settings are built in, and there is no account.

It suits Portuguese speakers who prefer European spelling and vocabulary, and learners of Portuguese looking for a short daily exercise.

How to play Palavra do Dia (palavra-do-dia.pt)

  1. Open Palavra do Dia (or the six-letter version) and type a valid Portuguese word.
  2. Press Enter to submit; you have six tries.
  3. Read the tiles: green right letter and place, yellow right letter wrong place, grey not in the word.
  4. Use the clues to find the word, then come back the next day for a new one.

Tips

  • Open with a word full of common Portuguese letters such as A, E, O, R and S.
  • Remember that many Portuguese words end in a vowel; test endings like -ar, -er or -ão-style patterns early.
  • Play the six-letter version after the five-letter one for a second challenge.
  • Use yellow letters in a different position on the next guess.
