Make 10

Turn the day's four-digit licence plate into 10 with + - x and ÷.

Every day: One four-digit licence plate a day, the same for everyone in the world. Combine its digits with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to make 10; making every number from 0 to 9 counts as a perfect. Past plates stay playable from a calendar. New puzzle: Once a day (the listing does not state the time).

Make 10's daily screen: today's plate 63-68 on a cartoon car, the digits 6, 3, 6 and 8 and the four operation buttons

Make 10 is an iPhone number puzzle based on the old pastime of making 10 from the digits of a car's licence plate. Each day everyone gets the same plate of four digits, and you merge them by tapping, two at a time with an operation, until 10 is left. Going on to make every number from 0 to 9 earns a perfect.

About Make 10

Make 10 takes the Japanese car game of making ten from the four digits on a licence plate and turns it into a daily puzzle. The day's plate rides on the back of a small cartoon car, and its four digits sit in tiles below. You tap a number, then an operation, then another number, and the two merge into the result; repeat until one number is left. The goal is 10.

Because numbers are merged by tapping, there are no brackets to type and no order of operations to worry about, and the app keeps exact fractions, so answers such as 8 ÷ (1 - 1 ÷ 5) = 10 work. The app does the arithmetic; you supply the idea. The maker says plates that other apps treat as impossible, such as 11-58, can be solved here.

There is one plate a day, the same for everyone in the world. Making 10 clears the day and keeps your streak, and a row of tiles from 0 to 9 tracks which other numbers you have made; all ten is a perfect. Missed days can be played from a calendar.

Other modes include Real Plate Mode, where you type in a plate you see on the road and the app tells you which numbers it can make, and a 90-second Time Attack. Playing fills a garage with new vehicles. The app is free with ads, and a subscription removes them. It is made by tomople, first came out in 2022, and is in English and Japanese.

Tips

  • Look for pairs that make 2 and 5, or 1 and 10, then deal with the other two digits.
  • Division into fractions often rescues a stubborn plate, such as 1 ÷ 5 in 8 ÷ (1 - 1 ÷ 5).
  • Subtracting equal digits gives 0, which can absorb a spare number by multiplication.
  • Make 10 first to save the streak, then go for the rest of the 0 to 9 row.
