Numbobulate is a daily mental arithmetic game. Four corner numbers between 1 and 9 stay the same for a week, and each day brings three rounds with a new double-digit target in the middle. You use some or all of the corners once each to reach the target, with no brackets, so the running total builds as you go.

About Numbobulate

Numbobulate lays out four numbers in the corners of a square with the operations between them and a target in the centre, revealed when you tap it. Each daily game has three rounds. In each one you combine the corner numbers, using each at most once, to land exactly on the target. There are no brackets: the green equals box shows your running total after every step, so order matters.

The corner numbers stay fixed for a whole week and are always between 1 and 9, while the targets are always two-digit numbers and change every day. That gives the week a rhythm: by Sunday you know your four numbers well. If you get stuck, you can reset the round, and once all four numbers are used you can skip to the next one. At the end you get a result you can share, along with points for the day.

The daily rounds are served from the site by date, so everyone plays the same targets. The help screens include sample rounds on ideas like using three consecutive numbers, factoring and overshooting the target.

It suits players who like Nerdle or Countdown-style sums but want something gentler, and anyone who enjoys a quick daily brain warm-up.

How to play Numbobulate

  1. Open Numbobulate and tap the centre square to reveal the target.
  2. Tap a corner number, an operation, then another corner number.
  3. Watch the running total in the green equals box; there are no brackets.
  4. Reach the target using each corner number at most once.
  5. Finish all three rounds and share your result.

Tips

  • Think in order: since there are no brackets, multiply early and add or subtract at the end.
  • Overshooting and then subtracting is often easier than building up.
  • Look for factors of the target among the corner numbers.
  • The corners stay the same all week, so learn their useful products.
