LYNE is a minimalist puzzle game by Thomas Bowker. Each board is a small grid of shapes, and you draw one path per colour that links all its shapes and passes through every numbered node the right number of times. Besides hundreds of hand-built levels, it releases new procedurally generated puzzles every day.

About LYNE

LYNE came out on Steam in March 2014 and has since reached iOS and, in October 2024, Nintendo Switch. Its tagline sums it up: deceptively simple, infinitely complex. The screen holds a grid of coloured triangles, squares and diamonds, plus grey numbered nodes, and nothing else.

To solve a board you draw a line for each shape type, starting at one end shape and finishing at the other, passing through every shape of that type along the way. Lines move between neighbouring nodes, including diagonally, cannot cross each other, and the numbered nodes must be visited exactly as many times as their number says. Every node on the board has to be used.

After the hundreds of pre-built puzzles, the daily mode keeps the game going: each day brings a fresh set of generated puzzles, released for all players. The tenth anniversary update in August 2024 overhauled the daily generator, roughly quadrupling the variety of daily puzzles, and added full controller support.

Soft colours and a quiet dynamic soundtrack make it a calm game even when a board fights back. It suits players who like Flow-style path puzzles and want a short, tidy daily set.

How to play LYNE

  1. Pick a colour and start your line on one of its end shapes (the ones with a single gap).
  2. Draw through every shape of that colour, moving to neighbouring nodes, until you reach the other end shape.
  3. Pass through each numbered node exactly as many times as its number.
  4. Fill every node without lines crossing to solve the board, then move on to the next daily puzzle.

Tips

  • Start with the colour whose path has the fewest options, often near a corner.
  • Count the numbered nodes early: they decide how many lines must pass through the middle.
  • If two lines would cross, try routing one of them diagonally around the other.
