Lishogi, the free shogi site modelled on Lichess, has a daily puzzle: one shogi position for everyone each day, where you find the strongest continuation. It sits inside a tactics trainer that also offers tsume (mating) problems.

About Lishogi Daily Puzzle

Lishogi.org is a free, open-source site for shogi, Japanese chess, built on the same lines as Lichess. Its puzzle section includes a daily puzzle: one position for all players that day, taken from its tactics trainer, which describes its mix as a bit of everything, so you never know quite what to expect.

You play the best move on the board; dropped pieces, promotions and checks all come into it, as in a real game. Beyond the daily puzzle there is a puzzle dashboard, themed sets and tsume problems, which are forced-mate puzzles.

It is free with no account needed to play.

It suits shogi players who want a daily tactic, and chess players curious about shogi who already use Lichess.

How to play Lishogi Daily Puzzle

  1. Open the daily puzzle on Lishogi.
  2. Study the position and pieces in hand.
  3. Find the strongest move, including drops and promotions.
  4. Play it on the board and follow the line to the end.

Tips

  • Check every piece in hand for a drop that attacks two things at once.
  • Look for checks first; many shogi tactics are forcing.
  • Try the tsume section to sharpen mating patterns.
