Knight anti-knight sudoku on mindloftdaily.com: the lower rows of a 9x9 grid with a few printed digits, and the number pad with Notes, Undo, Erase and Hint

Knight is a free daily anti-knight sudoku from Mind Loft. On top of the usual sudoku rules, no digit may appear a chess knight's move away from itself, two squares one way and one across. Selecting a square lights up the squares its knights reach.

About Knight (Mind Loft)

Knight adds one rule to classic 9x9 sudoku: the same digit may never sit a knight's move apart, two squares in one direction and one square across, as a chess knight jumps. Rows, columns and 3x3 boxes still hold 1 to 9 exactly once. Nothing extra is drawn on the grid; selecting a square lights up the eight squares its knights reach, so you never have to picture the L shape.

The knight rule reaches across boxes instead of inside them, and it does so much work that the board can print far fewer digits than an ordinary sudoku. Every board has a single solution reachable by logic, and the knight rule is always needed: read as a normal sudoku, the same clues would fit more than one grid. Wrong entries are not flagged, and a clean solve scores 10 with the leaderboard decided on time.

Printed digits fall from 28 on Monday to 16 on Saturday, and the Sunday Edition prints thirteen. Notes, Undo, Erase and a hint are available. A new board appears every day at midnight Eastern.

How to play Knight (Mind Loft)

  1. Open Knight and press Start.
  2. Tap a square to see its row, column, box and knight's-move squares highlighted.
  3. Fill digits so each row, column and box holds 1 to 9 once and no digit repeats a knight's move away.
  4. Use Notes for candidates and finish the grid without mistakes.

Tips

  • When placing a digit, also eliminate it from the eight knight squares around it.
  • The knight rule is strongest near the centre, where a square reaches all eight knight squares.
  • Hidden singles appear more often than usual, because each digit is blocked from many more squares.
