GlowGrid
Rate itLight every tile on the day's 5 by 5 glass grid, where each tap also flips its neighbours.
Every day: One numbered 5 by 5 board a day, built from the date so everyone gets the same one, counted from puzzle 1 on 1 January 2025. It is made by scrambling an all-lit grid, so it can always be solved. Arrows let you go back up to 60 days. New puzzle: Midnight, local time.

GlowGrid is a daily puzzle in the style of Lights Out on a 5 by 5 grid of glowing tiles. Each tap flips the tile and its neighbours, and the goal is to light all 25. Every tap plays a carillon note, so a finished puzzle replays as its own melody.
About GlowGrid
GlowGrid is a small browser game by ErwannR on itch.io, built on the classic Lights Out idea. Each day's board is a 5 by 5 grid of glass tiles, some glowing and some dark, and the aim is to light every one of them. The board comes from the date, so everyone gets the same numbered puzzle, and since it is made by scrambling a fully lit grid it always has a solution.
The game's code shows a twist on the usual rule. Tapping a lit tile flips it and the four tiles beside it, above and below. Tapping a dark tile flips it and its four diagonal neighbours instead. So the same tile does something different depending on whether it is on, and you have to plan with both patterns in mind.
A counter tracks your moves and your streak of days played. Reset puts the board back to the start, and Hint shows the next tile to tap on a shortest path to the solution; the hint button pulses if you sit idle near the end. When all 25 tiles glow, you can watch a replay of your solve, see a heatmap of how often you tapped each tile, and share a grid of coloured squares.
Every tap rings a carillon note, and the game describes each solution as making its own melody, a musical replay of the path you took. The sound can be muted. Arrows beside the puzzle number take you back through the last 60 days.
How to play GlowGrid
- Open GlowGrid on its itch.io page and press Run game to load today's numbered board.
- Tap a lit tile to flip it and its side neighbours, or a dark tile to flip it and its diagonal neighbours.
- Keep tapping until all 25 tiles glow.
- Use Reset to start over or Hint to see the next tile on a shortest solution.
- When it is solved, watch the replay or heatmap and share your result.

Tips
- Check whether a tile is lit before tapping: lit tiles flip in a plus shape, dark ones in an X shape.
- Tapping the same tile twice in a row does not undo the first tap, because the tile has changed state in between and flips a different pattern.
- Tap the dark tile at the centre of an X of dark corners: it lights all five at once.
- Use Reset rather than trying to undo a bad run of taps, and keep the move count low for a cleaner share grid.
Questions
Does each tap work the same way?
No. In the game's code a lit tile flips itself and its side neighbours, while a dark tile flips itself and its diagonal neighbours.
Is every puzzle solvable?
Yes. Each board is made by scrambling a fully lit grid, so there is always a way back.
Can I play earlier puzzles?
Yes. The arrows beside the puzzle number go back up to 60 days.
When does the puzzle change?
At midnight in your own time zone, since the board is built from your local date.
