DNDle
Rate itGuess the day's D&D monster by its six ability scores, in eight tries.
Every day: One Dungeons & Dragons 5e monster a day, the same for every player, guessed from its six ability scores in eight tries. New puzzle: 10:00 UTC.

DNDle is Wordle with Dungeons & Dragons stat blocks. Each day there is one hidden 5e monster, and you find it by entering six ability scores, from Strength to Charisma, and reading the coloured tiles. You have eight guesses, and a new monster comes at 10:00 UTC.
About DNDle
DNDle was made by Dan Q and launched on 16 February 2022, early in the run of Wordle clones. Instead of a word, the answer is a creature from the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons, and instead of letters you play with its six ability scores: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma.
Each row of the board is one guess of six numbers. You can type them on the on-screen number pad, or pick a monster from the drop-down list to enter its scores at once. After each guess the tiles change colour: a score in the right column, one the monster has but under a different ability, and one it does not have at all, just as letters work in Wordle. The name of the monster whose stats you entered shows beside the row. You have eight rows to find the day's monster, and the end screen names it with its challenge rating.
The day count starts from the launch, so every player gets the same monster, and a countdown shows when the next one arrives. A hard mode takes the number pad away so that every guess must be a real monster from the list. The game keeps your played games, win rate and streaks in your browser, and its share button posts your rows as coloured squares. DNDle is free, open source and not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast. It suits players and dungeon masters who know their stat blocks, and anyone who likes a number-flavoured Wordle.
How to play DNDle
- Open dndle.app; the board has six columns, STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS and CHA, and eight rows.
- Enter six ability scores with the number pad and press Enter, or choose a monster from the drop-down to use its scores.
- Read the tiles: one colour marks a score in the right column, another a score the monster has under a different ability, and grey a score it does not have.
- Use what you learned to pick a monster whose stat block fits, and guess again.
- Find the monster within eight guesses, then share your result and wait for the next one at 10:00 UTC.
Tips
- Open with a real monster from the drop-down: you test six scores at once and see a name to anchor on.
- Very high or very low scores narrow things fast, since few monsters have a Strength above 20 or an Intelligence of 1 or 2.
- Beasts tend to have very low Intelligence and Charisma, while fiends, dragons and celestials run high across the board.
- Try hard mode once you know the list: every guess must then be an actual monster.
Questions
When does DNDle get a new monster?
Every day at 10:00 UTC. A countdown on the statistics screen shows the time left.
How many guesses do I get?
Eight.
Do I have to know D&D to play?
It helps to know 5e stat blocks, but you can also pick monsters from the drop-down list and work from the colours.
Who made DNDle?
Dan Q, who released it in February 2022 and publishes its code under the MIT licence. It is not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast.
Is there a hard mode?
Yes. In the settings, hard mode hides the number pad, so you must choose a monster from the list for every guess.
