Depths of Providence
A turn-based JRPG cave of 100 floors, with one seeded descent a day for everyone.
Every day: A daily challenge run: the same seeded cave for everyone each day, with the same floors, enemy formations, chest contents and skill drops. No meta-progression; you start at level 1 with nothing banked, and a global leaderboard ranks how deep you get, with every run checked by server-side replay validation. New puzzle: Once a day; the game does not state the time.

Depths of Providence is a roguelike JRPG inspired by the Ancient Cave of Lufia II: a party of four heroes starts at level 1 and fights down through 100 generated floors. The daily run gives every player the same cave with no carried-over items, and a global leaderboard ranks who gets deepest.
About Depths of Providence
Depths of Providence is a solo project by Ryan Lutz, released on Steam in August 2026. Like the Ancient Cave in Lufia II, every run starts your four-hero party on floor 1 at level 1. Battles are turn-based, with classes, spells, elemental affinities and eleven equipment slots, and the deeper floors are deliberately harsh, with instant-death gazes, petrification and attacks that hit the whole party.
In the main mode, red chests hold gear for the current run only, while blue chests hold rare named equipment you can bank forever if you escape alive. A single Providence chest found somewhere between floors 15 and 24 lets you leave from anywhere with everything you carry, so each run is a choice between cashing out and pushing on. A mini-boss guards every tenth floor, and floor 100 holds the final boss.
The daily run is the mode the developer says he built the game for. Everyone faces the same procedurally generated cave that day: the same enemy formations, chest contents, skill drops and blue chest items. Nothing from your vault comes with you, so you start with no skills and nothing banked. The developer tuned it to be hard, expecting most players to fall somewhere in the twenties, and a daily leaderboard ranks how deep each player gets. Every submitted run is checked by replaying it on the server, so the board stays fair. A patch that changes the game files closes the day's board to new runs.
It suits JRPG players who find most of the genre too easy and want a skill test they can compare with others every day. It can be played in 8-bit or 16-bit style.
How to play Depths of Providence
- Buy Depths of Providence on Steam and start the daily run.
- Your party starts at level 1 on floor 1 with nothing banked; the cave is the same for everyone today.
- Fight the turn-based battles on each floor, open chests and choose which skills and gear to use.
- Go as deep as you can; there is no way to carry anything over, so play for depth.
- See how far you got on the global daily leaderboard.

Tips
- The deep floors have instant-death attacks; death wards and white magic matter more than raw damage.
- Know when to flee a battle you cannot win; running is part of the game.
- Learn the classes and spells in the main mode before chasing depth in the daily.
Questions
Is the daily the same for everyone?
Yes. Every player descends the same seeded cave that day, with the same floors, formations, chests and skill drops.
Do my banked items help in the daily?
No. The daily has no meta-progression: you start at level 1 with no skills and nothing from your vault.
How is the daily ranked?
By how deep you get, on a global leaderboard. Each run is validated by replaying it on the server.
What happens to a daily in progress when the game is patched?
A patch that changes the core game files ends submissions for that day, so an unfinished daily from before the patch can no longer be submitted.
