Aquarium is a filling puzzle: the grid is split into tanks, and you pour water into them so the number of wet cells in each row and column matches the clues. Puzzle-aquarium.com posts a Special Daily Aquarium for everyone, with 6x6 to 15x15 grids and weekly and monthly specials at other times.
About Daily Aquarium
An Aquarium grid is divided into irregular blocks, the aquariums. Each one is either empty or filled with water up to some level, and the water lies flat: at that level it covers the whole width of the tank, and every cell below the surface in that tank is full too. Numbers along the edges give how many cells are filled in each row and column. You decide the water level in every tank so all the counts come out right.
The daily game on puzzle-aquarium.com is the Special Daily Aquarium, one grid per date for every player, with the date shown beneath it. The puzzle for 2 October 2026 was 20 by 20, larger than any of the standard sizes. The site also has Easy, Normal and Hard puzzles in 6x6, 10x10 and 15x15, weekly and monthly specials, and a Hall of Fame for the standard sizes. It is free with ads, patrons can remove them, and the same puzzles are in the PuzzleGym app for iPhone and Android, which the site links to. Patrons of the site can go back through the last 30 daily puzzles; everyone else plays the current day's.
Aquarium suits players who like Nonograms and Thermometers, where row and column totals drive everything, and who enjoy a puzzle with a simple physical idea behind it.
How to play Daily Aquarium
- Open the Special Daily Aquarium on puzzle-aquarium.com and check the date under the grid.
- Read the numbers outside the grid: each tells how many cells in that row or column hold water.
- Fill a tank by marking cells as water; inside one tank the water must be level across its full width and fill everything below the surface.
- Mark cells you know are dry so they are not filled by mistake.
- Adjust tank levels until every row and column count is met, then submit the grid.
Tips
- Start with rows marked 0 or with the full width: they settle every tank they pass through at once.
- Water fills from the bottom, so if a cell is wet, every cell of the same tank in lower rows is wet too; if a cell is dry, every cell of that tank in higher rows is dry.
- A tank that spans several columns adds water to all of them at the same level; check the smallest column count it touches.
- Work the bottom rows first; filling there commits the fewest cells above.
