An Asterism board: numbered stars on a dark sky, several joined by straight glowing bridges

Asterism is a daily logic puzzle for iPhone set in a night sky. Each star carries a number saying how many bridges touch it; you link them with straight bridges that never cross until every star is part of one shape. One board a day, the same for everyone, with time-based scoring and Game Center leaderboards.

About Asterism

Asterism plays like the classic bridges puzzle, known in Japan as Hashiwokakero, with stars in place of islands. Numbered stars sit on a dark grid. You draw straight light-bridges between them so that each star has exactly as many bridges touching it as its number, no bridges cross, and all the stars end up joined into one constellation. Every board has one solution that can be reached by deduction, without guessing.

There is one board a day and it is the same for everyone, so times can be compared and results shared. Scoring is by time, with daily streaks and Game Center leaderboards. Difficulty follows a weekly curve from gentle to expert, and the app starts with a short learn-by-doing introduction. A streak page shows your best daily time, puzzles solved, perfect solves and longest streak, and streak savers can cover a missed day.

The sky slowly shifts warmer in summer and cooler in winter. The design does not rely on colour alone: numbers and lines carry all the information, which keeps it readable for colourblind players.

Asterism is by Branko Borota and came out in June 2026. It is free with no banner ads. The first hint each day is free and more come through an optional rewarded video; a coffee tip unlocks extra sky palettes and more daily hints. The daily itself is always free.

How to play Asterism

  1. Open Asterism to load the day's sky.
  2. Look at a numbered star: the number is how many bridges must touch it.
  3. Draw straight bridges between stars in the same row or column, never crossing another bridge.
  4. Keep going until every star has its number of bridges.
  5. Make sure all the stars join into one constellation to finish and log your time.

Tips

  • A star whose number equals what its neighbours can take at most has all its bridges fixed.
  • Stars with a 1 should not be joined to each other when other stars remain, or they cut off a closed pair.
  • Watch for bridges that would cross; one placed bridge often rules out another.
  • Before the last moves, check that no group of stars has closed itself off from the rest.
