Whenere

Three events a day: pin them on a 3D globe and place them in time.

Every day: Three historical events a day, the same for everyone: pin where each happened on a 3D globe and pick when on a timeline. New puzzle: Midnight UTC (the day's challenge is keyed to the UTC date in the game's code).

Whenere gives you three historical events each day. For each one you drop a pin on a spinning 3D globe and choose a date on a timeline, and you score for how close you get on both. No login is needed, and an archive, weekly themes and timed rounds are there once the daily is done.

About Whenere

Whenere is a daily history and geography game. Each day's challenge has three rounds, and each round describes a historical event. You turn a 3D globe to find the place and drop a pin, then move along a timeline to the date you think it happened.

After each round you see where and when the event really took place, how far off you were, and the points you earned for each part. At the end you get a total for the day and a share line that lists your score round by round. A streak counts the days you play in a row.

Beyond the daily there is an archive of past days, a weekly theme with its own set of rounds, and, for signed-in players, a timed challenge with 60 seconds per round, practice with the previous week's events, a flag mode and period events where you guess where something started and where it ended.

It suits players of WhenTaken or TimeGuessr who prefer events described in words to photographs, and anyone who likes the globe more than a flat map.

How to play Whenere

  1. Open whenere.net and start today's challenge.
  2. Read the event for the first round.
  3. Spin the globe and drop a pin where you think it happened.
  4. Pick a date on the timeline and submit your guess.
  5. See the real place and date, then play the other two rounds and compare your total.

Tips

  • Zoom the globe in before pinning: distance counts, and a few hundred kilometres matter.
  • Place and time score separately, so commit to your best guess on each even if one is shaky.
  • Use the archive to practise on past days.
