Unlockle is Wordle with a phone's pattern lock. The answer is a path through five of the nine dots on a 3x3 grid, and after each attempt every dot you used turns green, yellow or grey. You have six tries, with easy and hard modes that change how much of your past paths you can see.

About Unlockle

Unlockle, made by rgthree, swaps letters for the nine dots of a smartphone unlock screen. Each attempt connects five dots in order, by tapping them one by one or swiping the whole pattern. As on a real phone, a line can go from any dot to any other unless it would pass over an unvisited dot in between.

After each try the dots are coloured. Green means the dot is in the solution at that position in the order; yellow means it is in the solution but at a different step; grey means it is not in the pattern at all. Dots keep their colours as you go, though a green dot you leave out of your next attempt turns yellow.

The normal mode shows only your previous path, so you have to remember the earlier ones. Easy mode shows every previous attempt and its order, and hard mode keeps the dot colours but shows none of the paths, so you must remember every attempt. A new Unlockle is available each day, and a stats screen tracks your results.

How to play Unlockle

  1. Open unlockle.app and draw a pattern through five dots, tapping them in order or swiping.
  2. Make sure no line jumps over an unvisited dot.
  3. Read the colours: green is the right dot at the right step, yellow is in the pattern at another step, grey is not in it.
  4. Use the feedback to draw a better pattern, up to six attempts.
  5. Switch to easy or hard mode in the settings if you want a different challenge.

Tips

  • Use your first two attempts to cover most of the nine dots and find which are grey.
  • Remember the rule about passing over dots: it rules out some orders entirely.
  • Write down your earlier paths in normal mode, since only the last one stays visible.
  • The centre dot connects to every other dot directly, so it is a flexible early test.
