Three Clue card showing three one-word clues worth 3, 2 and 1 points

Three Clue is a daily movie quiz played with words only. Each day's drop has five films, and for each you see a single one-word clue, with two more you can take at the cost of a point each. Everyone gets the same five films, so scores out of fifteen can be compared.

About Three Clue

Three Clue asks you to name a film from one word. There are no posters, stills or cast lists: the first clue is a single word, and if it is not enough you can take a second and then a third, each narrowing things down. A film named on the first clue is worth three points, on the second two and on the third one.

Each daily drop holds five films, so the best score is fifteen, and every player in the world gets the same five. The one strict rule is that no clue uses a word from the film's title, so for The Lion King you might see jungle, then stampede, then meerkat. Spelling is forgiving: small typos, missing punctuation and a dropped The still count, but a different film does not.

A new drop arrives at midnight UTC. Your streak, score history and stats live in your browser, with no account needed, and a streak saver covers one missed day and is earned back after seven days in a row. The archive holds every drop since the first on 18 August 2026; archive games score the same way but leave your streak alone. It suits film fans who like a quick word puzzle more than picture clues.

How to play Three Clue

  1. Open the site to start the day's drop of five films.
  2. Read the first one-word clue and type the film you think it points to.
  3. If you are not sure, take the next clue; each extra clue lowers the points for that film by one.
  4. Move through all five films, then see your score out of fifteen and share your card.

Tips

  • Clues never use a word from the title, so think about plot, setting and famous scenes rather than title words.
  • Guessing on the first clue is worth three points, so a reasonable guess can pay off more than a safe third clue.
  • You can leave off a leading The; the game accepts it either way.
  • Use the archive to practise on past drops without risking your streak.
