Tally

The Tally card: a daily puzzle game

Tally is a free daily number puzzle. You connect up to four neighbouring numbers that add up to ten, and you have to cover the whole board with such groups, leaving nothing over. Each board has exactly one solution, and five mistakes end the game.

About Tally

Tally is a browser puzzle by Kingblade Games that describes itself as inspired by Sudoku and by the TV series Severance. The board is a grid of single digits, and your task is to divide all of it into groups. Each group is a path of up to four connected numbers whose total is exactly ten.

The catch is that many groups add up to ten but still break the puzzle, because they leave numbers that can no longer be grouped. There is only one solution that fills the entire board, and the game says you never need to guess: careful reasoning shows which numbers must go together.

Every day there is one numbered board, the same for all players, with a countdown to the next one. A wrong group counts as a mistake, and five mistakes end the game. When you finish you see your solve time, a mistakes distribution and your streak, and you can copy a result or save a replay of your moves as a GIF.

It suits players who like Sudoku-style deduction with simple arithmetic, and it takes a few minutes a day.

How to play Tally

  1. Look over the day's grid of digits.
  2. Drag across up to four connected numbers that add up to ten to make a group.
  3. Avoid groups that leave numbers stranded with no way to reach ten.
  4. Keep grouping until every number on the board is used.
  5. Finish with fewer than five mistakes, then share your time.

Tips

  • Start with numbers that have only one possible partner, such as a 9 next to a single 1.
  • Corners and edges have fewer neighbours, so they are often the easiest place to begin.
  • Paths of five or more numbers are not allowed, so large runs of small digits need careful planning.
