Summle is a daily maths puzzle in the spirit of the Countdown numbers round. Each day gives a target number and six tiles; you combine them with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to hit the target in five steps or fewer. Junior, Hard and Extreme modes run beside the normal daily puzzle.

About Summle

Summle is a browser number puzzle made by Nick Nicholaou. Every day has one numbered puzzle, the same for everyone: a target at the top of the screen and six number tiles at the bottom. On 3 October 2026, puzzle 1681 asked for 848 from 2, 2, 4, 6, 12 and 50.

You build the answer one sum at a time. Pick two tiles and an operation (plus, minus, times or divide) and the result appears as a yellow subtotal tile, which you can use in the next sum. Each number tile can be used once, you may not need them all, and there is always at least one solution. You have to reach the target in five steps or fewer, and the game tells you afterwards the fewest steps it could be done in.

Alongside the normal daily puzzle there are other daily modes: Junior, with times tables up to 12, Hard, and Extreme, which has only one possible solution. Kids Mode and Make 10, where you must use every number to make 10, can be played at any time. Statistics track your streak, and the page shows the share of players who solved the day and yesterday's solution.

It suits anyone who enjoys mental arithmetic and the numbers round of Countdown, and the Junior mode makes it a good daily habit for children learning their tables.

How to play Summle

  1. Look at the day's target number and the six number tiles.
  2. Click two tiles and an operation to make a sum.
  3. Use the yellow subtotal from that sum in a new sum if it helps.
  4. Keep combining until you reach the target, in five steps or fewer.
  5. Check the fewest steps it can be done in, then share your result.

Tips

  • Work backwards from the target: find a factor or a near multiple you can reach.
  • Multiply the biggest tiles first to get close, then adjust with the small ones.
  • You do not have to use every tile, so ignore any that do not help.

Questions
