Stardle

The Stardle title in blue letter tiles, A daily astronomy word game

Stardle is a free Wordle variant where every answer has something to do with astronomy, from star names to telescope terms. You get six tries at the day's five-letter word, and an astronomy fact is shown once you finish.

About Stardle

Stardle borrows the rules of Wordle and points them at the night sky. Each day there is one hidden five-letter answer, the same for everyone, and it is always a word or name connected to astronomy: a star, a moon, a constellation, a piece of observing kit or a sky phenomenon.

Your guesses do not have to be astronomy words, just valid five-letter English words. After each guess the tiles change colour: blue for a letter in the right spot, yellow for a letter in the word but in another spot, and grey for a letter that is not in the word. You have six tries.

When the round ends, Stardle shows a short fun fact linked to the answer, which turns a quick word game into a small daily astronomy lesson. The word list and facts were put together by @lvanzell and the alistargazing site, and the page credits the original Wordle and the Canadian spin-off Canuckle as its base.

There is a statistics panel, a dark mode and a colour-blind setting. It suits amateur astronomers, science teachers and Wordle players who know their Mizar from their Ariel.

How to play Stardle

  1. Type any valid five-letter word and press Enter.
  2. Read the colours: blue is right letter and spot, yellow is in the word elsewhere, grey is not in it.
  3. Use the clues to narrow down the astronomy word, with six tries in total.
  4. Read the fun fact about the answer when the round ends.

Tips

  • Think of star names, moons and constellations: answers can be proper names as well as common words.
  • Open with a guess heavy in common letters, since your guesses need not be about astronomy.
  • Turn on colour-blind mode in settings if blue and yellow are hard to tell apart.
