SpellingB
Rate itHear the day's word read aloud and spell it in five guesses.
Every day: One numbered challenge word a day, the same for every player: you hear it read aloud and have five guesses to spell it, with a definition, an example sentence and a phonetic spelling as hints. New puzzle: Not stated; a new challenge each calendar day, and past days stay playable in the archive..

Spellingb is a free daily spelling bee in the browser. Press the speaker to hear the day's word, ask for its definition, a sentence or a phonetic spelling if you need help, and type the spelling in up to five tries, with each letter marked in colour after a guess.
About SpellingB
Spellingb turns a classroom spelling bee into a short daily puzzle. Each day has one numbered challenge word, the same for everyone. The page opens on a large speaker button: press it and the word is read aloud, then type what you heard on the on-screen keyboard or your own and press Enter.
If the word is hard to place, three hint buttons sit under the speaker. Definition tells you what the word means, Sentence shows it used in context, and Phonetic spells out how it sounds, which also lets you play with the sound off. The game asks for the volume on when it opens, but the phonetic hint is there for players who keep their device muted.
You get five guesses. After each one the letters are coloured the way Wordle colours them: right letter in the right place, right letter in the wrong place, or not in the word at all. So a near miss on a word like accommodate still teaches you which doubled letter you got wrong, and the next guess can fix it.
When the day is done you can copy a grid of your result to share, and a stats panel keeps your daily finishes and win streak in the browser, with no account. The clock button opens Past Challenges, every earlier day's word to play again, and Free Play gives unlimited practice words beyond the daily one. The words run from everyday to long and tricky, so it suits anyone who liked spelling tests at school as much as word game regulars looking for something played by ear.
How to play SpellingB
- Open spellingb.app and turn your sound on, then close the volume reminder.

- If you need help, press Definition, Sentence or Phonetic for a hint.
- Type your spelling with the on-screen keys or your keyboard and press Enter.
- Read the colours on each letter: correct place, in the word elsewhere, or not in the word, and adjust your next guess.
- Spell the word within five guesses, then copy your result grid to share it.

Tips
- Listen for the word's ending before you type: many misses are -ance against -ence or -able against -ible.
- Try the Sentence hint before Definition when a word sounds like another word; the context tells you which one is meant.
- The Phonetic hint shows the stressed syllable, which is often where a doubled or silent letter hides.
- Use Free Play for practice words before the daily one if you want to warm up without risking your streak.
Questions
Is Spellingb free?
Yes. The daily word, the archive and Free Play all play in the browser at no cost and with no account.
Can I play without sound?
The game is made to be heard, but the Phonetic hint spells out how the word sounds, so you can play muted if you need to.
How many guesses do I get?
Five. After each guess every letter is marked as in the right place, in the word elsewhere, or not in the word.
Can I play earlier days?
Yes. The clock button opens Past Challenges, a list of every earlier daily word, and Free Play gives extra practice words.
