Reversle's card: the name with a reversed R above a five-row Wordle-style grid of green and grey squares

Reversle turns Wordle around. You see the solution word in the bottom row and a grid of green, yellow and grey squares above it; your job is to fill the four rows with real words that would give exactly that pattern against the answer. Your score is the time you take.

About Reversle

Reversle is a reverse Wordle made by the independent developer Kiru, who also made the maths game Mathle. It launched in early 2022, at the height of the Wordle craze, and has published a numbered daily puzzle ever since.

The board looks like a finished Wordle game. The fifth row holds the answer in green, and the four rows above it are a pattern of coloured squares with no letters. You have to supply the letters: for each row, find a real five-letter word that, guessed against the answer, would produce exactly that row's greens, yellows and greys. You do not need to find the words the setter had in mind, only words that fit the colours.

The score is time. Each row is timed, and your total goes into a shareable result showing the puzzle number and seconds taken, without giving the words away. Streaks count consecutive days played.

It suits Wordle players who want a vocabulary workout: a row with one green and four greys can be surprisingly hard to fill quickly, and the answer word is always there to plan around.

How to play Reversle

  1. Read the answer word in the bottom row and the colour pattern in the four rows above.
  2. For the first row, think of a real five-letter word whose letters match the answer exactly where the squares are green, appear elsewhere where they are yellow, and are absent where they are grey.
  3. Type it in; if it produces the right colours the row is accepted and the next begins.
  4. Fill all four rows as fast as you can.
  5. Share your time and come back after midnight for the next puzzle.

Tips

  • Start with the grey squares: list letters not in the answer that you can use freely.
  • A yellow square means the letter is in the answer but not there, so try the answer's letters in other positions.
  • Common word endings like -ER, -ED and -LY can fill grey positions quickly.
