Quickflip daily puzzle: eight blank letter tiles with a clue for the wrong word and a Start button

Quickflip is Puzzmallow's fastest daily. Each tile has a letter on both sides; flip them to spell an eight-letter word. Two words can be made, and the clue you are given describes the wrong one, so you must use it to steer away from that answer.

About Quickflip

Quickflip is one of the short daily games on Puzzmallow, the puzzle site that also runs Crossflip, Wordspan, Pipcross and Terraformation. It bills itself as the quickest word puzzle on the web, and a round usually takes seconds rather than minutes.

The board is a row of eight tiles, each with a letter on both sides. Flipping tiles changes the word they spell, and the letters are set so that two different eight-letter words can be made. Only one of them is the day's answer. The twist is in the clue: it describes the wrong word, not the right one, and the right word is shown only as question marks. You read the clue, work out which word it points to, and flip your way to the other one.

Each daily puzzle is numbered and the same for everyone. A timer can be shown for players who want to race themselves, and a practice mode offers extra rounds outside the daily one.

It suits players who like a fast anagram-style puzzle with a small trick, as a warm-up before longer word games.

How to play Quickflip

  1. Open Quickflip on puzzmallow.com and press Start.
  2. Read the clue: it describes the wrong word, the one to avoid.
  3. Tap tiles to flip them between their two letters.
  4. Spell the eight-letter word that the clue does not describe.
  5. Come back the next day for a new numbered puzzle, or try practice mode.

Tips

  • Work out the wrong word from the clue first; the right one shares most of its tiles.
  • Look for tiles whose two letters change the word's meaning, such as a vowel against a consonant.
  • Turn the timer on once you know the trick, to see how fast you can go.
