Ponderings (Third Place Games)
Rate itTurn every stone in the pond to the same side, when some stones are secretly linked.
Every day: Three daily ponds (Small 12 stones, Medium 19, Large 27), the same for everyone on the US Eastern date: tap stones, some secretly linked, until every stone shows the same side, against a stated minimum number of taps. One play per pond. New puzzle: Midnight, US Eastern time.

Ponderings is a daily flipping puzzle from Third Place Games. Each pond holds pale and ink stones, and tapping a stone turns it over along with any stones it is secretly linked to. You read the ripples to learn the links and try to turn every stone to one side in the fewest taps, across three ponds a day.
About Ponderings (Third Place Games)
Ponderings is the quietest of Third Place Games' daily puzzles, beside Grade, Regrade and Dovetail. A round watercolour pond holds a cluster of stones, each with a pale side and an ink side, and the goal is to make the pond still: every stone pale, or every stone ink.
Tapping a stone turns it over. Some stones turn alone, but others are quietly linked, and tapping one also turns every stone it is linked to. Links do not pass along: if A is linked to B and B to C, tapping A turns A and B but not C. Each tap sends a ripple in that stone's colour around every stone that turned, which is how you learn the hidden links. Tapping a stone twice puts everything back, so there is no undo button.
Three ponds come out each day, Small with 12 stones, Medium with 19 and Large with 27. They follow the US Eastern date, so everyone gets the same ponds, and each can be played once. The counter shows your taps beside Min, the fewest taps that can still the pond, and a clock runs while you play.
A finished pond can be shared as a row of dots, one blue dot for each of the minimum taps and a white dot for each tap over, so friends see how close you came without seeing the pond. The daily ponds are free with no account, and a one-time US $1 unlock adds unlimited practice ponds.
How to play Ponderings (Third Place Games)
- Open Ponderings on thirdplacegame.com, choose today's Small, Medium or Large pond and press Start.
- Tap a stone to turn it over; any stones linked to it turn as well.

- Turn every stone pale or every stone ink, aiming for the Min number of taps shown above the pond.
- Share your row of dots to show how close you came to the minimum.

Tips
- A stone tapped twice undoes itself, so test a stone and tap it again to read its links without losing ground.
- Links only reach one step: a stone's ripple shows exactly which stones it turns, not a chain beyond them.
- Either side counts: the pond is still when every stone is pale or every stone is ink, so keep both endings in mind.
- Learn on the 12-stone Small pond before the 27-stone Large one.
