PixelLinkr is a free daily Connections-style puzzle for gamers. Each day's numbered board shows sixteen video game titles, and you find the four groups of four that share a hidden link, with four mistakes to spare and optional hints.

About PixelLinkr

PixelLinkr takes the four-by-four grouping puzzle and fills it with video games. A board might mix Palworld, Conan Exiles, Frostpunk 2, Manor Lords, Re-Volt and Micro Machines World Series, and the links can be about genre, developer, setting, series, a shared word in the title or something more sideways. Categories can overlap, so the obvious group is not always the right one.

You select four titles and submit; correct groups lock in and are coloured yellow, green, blue or purple by difficulty, and you have four mistakes in all. Hints can reveal a category or a pair, and a 'show covers' option displays box art for each title. Some puzzles touch on story details, so spoilers are blurred until clicked.

A new numbered puzzle arrives at midnight, the same for everyone, and past puzzles are in an archive, along with a blog explaining each day's categories. The same team makes CineLinkr for films. It suits gamers with broad knowledge of PC and console releases old and new.

How to play PixelLinkr

  1. Read the sixteen game titles on today's board.
  2. Select four that you think share a hidden connection and press Submit.
  3. Correct groups lock in; wrong ones cost one of your four mistakes.
  4. Use the category or pair hints if stuck, and find all four groups to finish.

Tips

  • Look for titles that could fit two groups and leave them for last.
  • Think beyond genre: developers, publishers, settings and words in the title are common links.
  • Turn on 'Show covers' if you do not recognise a title from its name.
  • Read the blog after solving to see how the categories were built.
