newdle
Drag the day's letter tiles into one small connected crossword, and chase emoji for long words or a compact grid.
Every day: One set of letter tiles a day, generated from the date so everyone gets the same letters: 12 on most days and 20 on Sundays, to arrange into a connected crossword. New puzzle: Midnight, your local time.

newdle is a small daily word game inspired by the dice game Q-Less: you get the day's letters as tiles and drag them into a crossword that uses every one. On top of finishing, there are emoji goals to earn, such as a long word or a grid that fits in a small square.
About newdle
newdle is a free browser word game by minbytes, released in August 2024 and playable at minbytes.com or on its itch.io page. The name comes from a misheard remark: told about a new -dle game, the maker's wife asked what a newdle was.
Each day you get a handful of orange letter tiles, the same for everyone that day: 12 on most days and 20 on Sundays. You drag them around a grid until they form one crossword, with words reading across and down and every tile used. The letter Q always comes with an extra U.
The twist on Q-Less is a set of subgoals that each award an emoji. Some reward a compact board, some reward long words, some reward using only a few words or making every word a certain length, and a book emoji goes to grids made entirely of dictionary words. Working out how to earn each emoji is part of the game, and on Sundays some of them become impossible because of the extra letters.
When you are done, the share button copies the date, your emoji and a picture of your grid. It suits players who like Scrabble-style tile shuffling and want a short, open-ended daily rather than a single right answer.
How to play newdle
- Open minbytes.com/newdle.html to get today's letter tiles.
- Drag the tiles onto the grid to build words that read across and down.
- Join every tile into one connected crossword.
- Rearrange to earn emoji goals, such as a long word or a small, square board.
- Press share to copy your grid and emoji.
Tips
- Start with the longest word you can see in the letters, then hang shorter words off it.
- Try to fit everything inside a 4x4 or 5x5 area for the compact-board emoji.
- Keep to real dictionary words if you want the book emoji.
- Save tricky letters like Q (which comes with a U), J and X for crossing points.
Questions
Is newdle the same for everyone?
Yes. The letters come from the date, so everyone playing that day gets the same tiles.
When do newdle's letters change?
At midnight on your own device's clock.
Why are there more letters on Sunday?
Sundays use 20 letters instead of 12, which makes some emoji goals impossible that day.
Is there one right answer?
No. Any connected crossword using every tile works; the emoji goals reward different kinds of grid.
