Mocktiles
Rate itEight letter tiles, a 5x5 grid: build connected words for the highest score.
Every day: Eight coloured letter tiles a day, numbered and the same for everyone, to place as words on a 5x5 grid for the highest score. New puzzle: Once a day; puzzles are numbered (exact hour not stated).

Mocktiles is a daily word-building puzzle from Product Pickle Games. Everyone gets the same eight letter tiles, and you place them on a 5x5 grid as words running across or down, all connected, with each tile's colour setting its points. Your total puts you in a tier, from Cool to Awesome at 30 or more.
About Mocktiles
Mocktiles gives every player the same eight letter tiles each day, numbered on the screen (Mocktiles #280 on the day seen here). The tiles are coloured green, yellow, blue and purple, and the colour sets how many points a letter is worth. You place them on an empty five by five grid to form words in straight lines, across or down, with every tile kept connected to the rest as you build.
You add words one at a time with the Add Word button, and a Reset button lets you clear the board a limited number of times, four on the day seen. A score bar under the grid marks the tiers: Cool from 1 point, Nice from 10, Clever from 20, Brilliant from 25 and Awesome from 30. The puzzle is in choosing which tiles to spend on which word, because high-value colours are worth more when they sit where two words cross.
A switch at the top moves between the daily puzzle and other play, and the game keeps stats and has a help page. It is free in the browser with no account. It suits players who like Scrabble-style scoring in a puzzle short enough for a coffee break.
How to play Mocktiles
- Look at the day's eight letter tiles and their colours, which set each letter's points.
- Place tiles on the 5x5 grid to spell a word across or down, and press Add Word.
- Add more words that connect to what is already on the grid, reusing letters where words cross.
- Use Reset if you want to start over, within the day's limit.
- Submit your board when you are done to see your score and tier.
Tips
- Plan where the highest-value colours go before placing the first word.
- Make words cross on valuable letters so they count more than once.
- Short words are fine if they let you use every tile.
- Keep a Reset in reserve for when a better layout occurs to you late.
