Scraple gives everyone the same rack of letter tiles and a small 5x5 board with double and triple squares each day. You drag tiles to form crossing words, as in Scrabble, and press Finish when you are done; invalid words cost points.

About Scraple

Scraple is a daily word-building puzzle in the style of Scrabble, on a board only five squares wide. Each date has its own board: a few bonus squares (double letter, triple letter, double word, triple word) placed in fixed spots, and a rack of letter tiles with their point values, such as four-point W, F, V and H and a three-point P beside plenty of ones.

You drag letters onto the board to make words of at least two letters, reading across to the right or downwards. Every tile has to touch another, words may cross, and each word on the board counts. There is no limit on attempts while you build: the running score updates as you go, Shuffle rearranges the rack, Reset clears the board, and Finish locks in your score. Words that are not valid are taken off your total.

The challenge is fitting high-value letters onto the bonus squares while keeping every crossing a real word, on a board too small to use the whole rack. A leaderboard and profile sit in the header. It suits players who enjoy Scrabble scoring more than guessing games.

How to play Scraple

  1. Open scraple.io to load the day's board and tiles.
  2. Drag letters onto the 5x5 board to spell words across or down, at least two letters long.
  3. Keep every tile touching another; words may cross and all of them count.
  4. Aim to put high-value letters on the double and triple squares.
  5. Press Finish when you cannot improve your score; invalid words cost points.

Tips

  • Plan around the triple word square first: a word through it with a four-point letter scores most.
  • Short crossing words like two-letter plays add up on a small board.
  • Check every cross word before you finish, since invalid ones subtract points.
  • Use Shuffle to spot words in the rack you had missed.
