Morphl is a free daily word ladder. Change one letter at a time to turn a start word into a target word, with every step a real word, and score your chain against par like a round of golf. Beside the daily puzzle sit a dozen other ladder modes.
About Morphl
Morphl takes the old word ladder and gives it a score. Each day there is a start word and a target, such as LEAD and GOLD, and you build a chain between them by changing exactly one letter per step. Every word in the chain has to be a real word.
Each puzzle has a par, the number of moves a good chain needs, and you score above or below it like golf. The short opening tutorial shows the idea with LEAD, LOAD, GOAD, GOLD.
Beyond the daily puzzle the site has a whole suite of modes built on the same one-letter step: Bridge, Tour, Open, Web, Hot and Cold, Ladderdle, Links and Cladder, plus two real-time arcade modes, Wordfall and Versus.
It is free to play in the browser and suits anyone who likes short vocabulary puzzles with a clear target to beat.
How to play Morphl
- See today's start word and target word.
- Change one letter of the current word to make a new real word.
- Repeat, one letter per step, until you reach the target.
- Try to finish in par moves or fewer, then try the other modes.
